1960–61 Durand Cup final
The 1960–61 Durand Cup final was the 57th edition of India’s oldest football competition, played between Kolkata giants Mohun Bagan and East Bengal. The first match was on 18 January 1961 at the Corporation Stadium in New Delhi and ended 1–1. East Bengal led in the second half after Arun Ghosh scored from a penalty, but Mohun Bagan equalized minutes later through Amiya Banerjee.
A replay was held on 19 January 1961 at the same stadium, which also ended in a 0–0 draw after regular time. No extra time was played, and the organizers declared both teams joint winners. A coin toss decided who would hold the trophy first: Mohun Bagan won and kept it for six months, after which East Bengal would take it for six months.
This victory gave East Bengal their fourth Durand Cup title (1951, 1952, 1956, 1961) and Mohun Bagan their third (1953, 1959, 1961).
