The race was held on 2 January 1950 at the Nuriootpa Road Circuit in South Australia. The track was a 4.8 km temporary road circuit, and the race covered 34 laps for a total distance of 163.2 km. The weather was sunny.
Format and results
- The event used a handicap start, with cars beginning at timed intervals from slowest to fastest. The official Grand Prix winner was the driver with the fastest actual race time, regardless of handicap. Prizes and awards were given based on handicap results, with a separate trophy for the handicap winner.
- Fastest lap: 2 minutes 27 seconds, shared by Rupert Steele (Alfa Romeo) and Doug Whiteford (Ford).

Notes
- Whiteford won the race by almost three minutes ahead of Steele. Gullan had the third fastest race time and was the handicap winner.

- It is not known whether the cars of McKenna and Douglas retired or were still running when the race time expired.
