1872 Newcastle colonial by-election
On 27 May 1872, a by-election was held in the Newcastle electorate for the New South Wales Legislative Assembly. The vacancy arose when George Lloyd was appointed Postmaster-General in the first Parkes ministry. In related by-elections the previous week, Henry Parkes easily retained his East Sydney seat, and the five other ministers were re-elected unopposed.
