The 1862 New York state election was held on November 4, 1862. Voters chose the governor and other state officers, plus all members of the New York State Assembly.

Governor race
- Horatio Seymour (Democratic Party) defeated James S. Wadsworth (the Republican/Union ticket).
- Seymour received 306,649 votes (50.89%), while Wadsworth received 295,897 votes (49.11%).

Conventions and party alignment
- The Constitutional Union party held a state convention on September 9 in Troy, aiming to end the Civil War, and later joined the Democratic convention.
- The Democratic convention on September 10 nominated Horatio Seymour by acclamation.
- The Republican Union convention on September 24 nominated James S. Wadsworth for governor and Lyman Tremain for lieutenant governor.

Overall result
- The Democratic and Constitutional Union ticket won the election.
- About 70,000 fewer votes were cast than in the previous election because soldiers in the field could not vote, a change believed to favor anti-war opponents by roughly 10,000 votes overall.

State Assembly
- In the 1863 New York State Assembly, 64 Republicans and 64 Democrats were elected, resulting in a tied chamber.
