1222 Tina, provisional designation 1932 LA, is a metallic asteroid in the middle of the main belt. It’s about 20–26 kilometers across and is the parent body of the Tina asteroid family.

Discovery and name
It was discovered on 11 June 1932 by Belgian astronomer Eugène Delporte at Uccle Observatory in Belgium. It was named after a friend of the discoverer.

Orbit and physical properties
Tina orbits the Sun every about 4.7 years at a distance of roughly 2.1–3.5 astronomical units. Its path is inclined by about 20 degrees and somewhat elongated (eccentricity ~0.25). The asteroid is metal-rich, classified as X-type/M-type, and has an albedo ranging roughly from 0.14 to 0.31. Diameters reported range from about 20 to 26 kilometers.

Rotation
Tina spins with a rotation period around 13.4 hours, though other measurements give about 17.2 hours. Its light variation is modest, indicating a fairly regular shape.

Tina family
1222 Tina gives its name to the Tina family, a small group of 17–89 asteroids with similar orbits and spectral properties. These bodies share a resonant relationship with Saturn that helps keep their orbits stable. The family is thought to be relatively young, around 170 million years old, and is expected to disperse into less-stable regions in about 200 million years.
