Žabja Vas, Novo Mesto
Žabja Vas is a place in southeastern Slovenia that used to be an independent village. Today it is part of the city of Novo Mesto, in the Southeast Slovenia Statistical Region and the traditional region of Lower Carniola. The settlement lies southeast of Novo Mesto’s town center along the road to Kostanjevica na Krki, with the Gotenski boršt woods to the southeast. The name means "frog village" in Slovene, and an older name for the settlement was Žabja Luža, meaning "frog pond." In 1961, Žabja Vas had 374 residents in 73 houses, and in 1979 it was annexed by Novo Mesto, ending its status as an independent village. Elevation is 203 meters.
