Young Martin
Young Martin, born Martin Marco Voto on March 5, 1931, was a Spanish boxer who fought in the flyweight division. He won regional titles and challenged for the world title once.
On October 3, 1955, in Nottingham, England, the 24-year-old Martin faced Dai Dower for the European Boxing Union flyweight title. He knocked Dower out in round 12 of a 15-round fight to win the title, using powerful body punches and several knockdowns.
Martin defended the European title three times before losing it to Finnish boxer Risto Luukkonen by a 15-round decision on September 4, 1959, in Helsinki.
While European champion, he challenged world champion Pascual Perez in Buenos Aires on December 7, 1957, but Perez stopped him in round three.
Martin retired after an eight-round loss to Victor Carrascosa on September 6, 1962, in Bilbao. He finished with a record of 71 wins, 17 losses, and 5 draws in 93 fights, including 28 wins and 5 losses by knockout. He died on June 17, 2006.
