Xi'an Metro
Xi’an Metro, also called Xi’an Rail Transit, is a rapid transit system serving Xi’an and the nearby city of Xianyang in Shaanxi, China. It currently has 13 lines with 283 stations, covering about 422 kilometers of track. Trains run on standard-gauge tracks (1435 mm) and are operated by Xi’an Rail Transit Group Co., Ltd.
The system began operation on 16 September 2011 with Line 2. Line 1 opened in 2013, and since then many new lines have joined the network, with additions occurring through 2025. The network includes lines built to serve different parts of the city, including east–west and north–south routes, as well as a circular line. A future Line 17 is planned for late 2027 to expand coverage further.
Daily ridership was about 3.8 million on average in 2024, with a peak day around 6.2 million on 31 December 2025. Annual ridership was about 1.4 billion in 2024. The Xi’an Metro has grown rapidly to connect central Xi’an with outlying areas, and more lines are planned to be added in the coming years.
