Willow Tank Formation
Willow Tank Formation
The Willow Tank Formation is a rock unit in Nevada, USA, that outcrops near the Valley of Fire. It is from the Late Cretaceous period, specifically the Cenomanian age, about the same time as the Cloverly and Cedar Mountain Formations. The rocks were laid down by a network of rivers (an interconnected fluvial system). The formation is mainly claystone, with pieces of conglomerate and sandstone. It lies atop the Aztec Sandstone and below the Baseline Sandstone. The thickness is unknown, and its extent is in the Valley of Fire region of Nevada.
