Pristella is a small group of freshwater fish in the American characin family, Acestrorhamphidae. Until 2019 it had only one species, Pristella maxillaris. In 2019 a second species, Pristella ariporo, was described. There is also a possibility that Hyphessobrycon axelrodi could belong in Pristella because of its conical teeth, but more genetic studies are needed to confirm. The current valid species are Pristella maxillaris and Pristella ariporo.
