West Vero Corridor is a census-designated place in Indian River County, Florida. It covers about 6 square miles, mostly land, and had a population of 10,039 in 2020. The community sits along Florida State Road 60, southeast of the county’s center, bordered by Vero Beach South to the east and I-95 to the west; Vero Beach is about 3 miles to the east. I-95 connects to Melbourne about 33 miles north and Fort Pierce about 16 miles south. West Vero Corridor is part of the Sebastian–Vero Beach–West Vero Corridor metro area. Historically, the land was home to Native American tribes like the Ais and Seminoles and later became known for cattle grazing and citrus farming. Growth surged from the 1980s into the 2000s with new highways and shopping centers such as the Indian River Mall. In November 2023, about 6 inches of rain caused minor flooding. The 2020 census counted 5,638 households in the area. The median age is 67, with 53.6% of residents aged 65 or older; about 46.2% are male and 53.8% female. Median household income is around $52,000, and per capita income about $36,383; roughly 8.5% live below the poverty line. The area is governed by the Indian River County Board of Commissioners (Districts 1 and 3), with police from the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office and Fire/EMS from Indian River County Fire Rescue Stations 7 and 14.
