WWF on MSG Network
WWF on MSG Network, also called WWF from Madison Square Garden, was a monthly live wrestling show produced by the World Wrestling Federation. It aired on the MSG Network from August 7, 1976, to March 16, 1997. The program featured live matches at Madison Square Garden, plus interviews and updates on current feuds and title changes.
The show helped build big moments in wrestling history. Bob Backlund won the WWWF World Heavyweight Championship on February 20, 1978, here, and Hulk Hogan won his first WWF Championship by defeating The Iron Sheik on January 23, 1984. As WWF expanded nationally, the event became less central once WrestleMania started in 1985, and more pay-per-views and TV specials like Saturday Night’s Main Event took over. The WWF on MSG Network was discontinued after 1992, with one final event on March 16, 1997.
In 2006, WWE began a new series called MSG Classics, which showed clips and matches from Madison Square Garden and ran until 2009. As of May 2022, 44 of the 151 total WWF on MSG Network episodes were available on WWE Network in the WWE Old School playlists.
