WCBU
WCBU is a listener-supported, non-commercial public radio station in Peoria, Illinois. It is owned by Bradley University and has been operated by Illinois State University under a management agreement since June 1, 2019. WCBU is a National Public Radio member broadcasting on 89.9 FM from Bradley’s campus.
The main channel airs news and information, including NPR programs like Morning Edition and All Things Considered. WCBU also runs a second channel, HD2, which offers full-time classical music. HD2 can be heard on the Peoria translator 103.5 FM (W278AE) and online.
WCBU first signed on in 1970 and began HD2 classical programming in 2007, making it the first Central Illinois station with a separate classical service. Under the 2019 arrangement, ISU handles operations and personnel, while WCBU keeps its call letters and 89.9 FM frequency. WGLT’s 103.5 FM translator in Peoria now simulcasts WCBU-HD2’s classical music.
WCBU’s news department has won multiple awards since 1999, and the station also streams online at wcbu.org.
