Vasil Kiryienka

Vasil Kiryienka is a Belarusian former professional cyclist, born on June 28, 1981, in Rechytsa. He was renowned as a strong time-trialist and endurance rider who competed professionally from 2006 to 2020. He rode for teams including Tinkoff, Movistar, and Team Sky, and finished his career with BelAZ as a directeur sportif.

Kiryienka began his career on the track, winning the 2008 world title in the Points Race. On the road, he earned three Giro d’Italia stage wins (2008, 2011, 2015) and one Vuelta a España stage win (2013). He became World Time Trial Champion in 2015 and won medals in time trials at other major events: bronze in 2012, silver in 2016, and he won the European Games time trial in 2015 and 2019. He was a multiple-time Belarus national time trial champion.

In 2016, Kiryienka carried Belarus’s flag at the opening ceremony of the Rio de Janeiro Olympics and finished 17th in the time trial. He retired in January 2020 due to recurring heart problems.

Today, he works as a directeur sportif for BelAZ, helping guide the team in races.
