Two in One is a 2007 Ukrainian–Russian drama directed by Kira Muratova. It weaves together two screenplays by Yevgeny Golubenko and Renata Litvinova and stars Renata Litvinova, Nataliya Buzko, Bogdan Stupka and Alexander Bashirov. The film won the Nika Prize for Best Film of the Russian Commonwealth and Baltic States in 2006, and Muratova received Best Director at the 2007 Russian Guild of Film Critics Awards.

The story has two intertwined parts. In a theater, a clown actor is found hanged. Stagehand Utkin discovers the body, and the crew hesitates to move it as the show must go on. The dead man’s body stays on stage while backstage tensions rise. Utkin eventually kills his rival janitor with a hammer. The two stories then blend: the murder is forgotten, the audience gathers for a sold-out premiere, and the performance opens with snow falling and elaborate sets, with a large window revealing the second story as the line between theater and film blurs.

In the second story, a young woman named Masha must rely on her father for money and endures his advances. He pressures her to introduce him to a friend for New Year’s Eve, threatening assault if she refuses. Masha brings home Alisa, a simple tram depot worker played by Renata Litvinova. The father entertains both women and grows infatuated with Alisa, while Masha contemplates killing him. On January 1, he calls Alisa to stay with him, and she agrees.

The film is known for its provocative scenes, including a nude moment involving the actors. The actress later said she hoped it wouldn’t be explicit, but the director filmed it as intended, and she regards the scene as justified within the film’s context.
