Tower Fifth
Tower Fifth is a proposed skyscraper in Midtown Manhattan, New York City. It would rise at 5 East 51st Street, developed by Macklowe Properties and designed by Gensler, with a planned height of about 1,556 feet (474 meters) and 96 floors. Plans were first announced in January 2019 as the developer began assembling the site, with demolition permits filed in April 2020.
If built, Tower Fifth would be the tallest building in New York City by roof height and the 15th tallest in the world, surpassing Central Park Tower by roughly 6 feet. In April 2025, Macklowe sold part of the site at 12 East 52nd Street for $15 million. The façade, also by Gensler, uses a closed cavity system to cut solar heat gain by about 70%. The design keeps a consistent mass for most of the height, then features a cantilevered top section that houses a multi-floor observation deck.
