Muslim Europe refers to the parts of Europe where Muslims are the majority or form a large community. This includes countries like Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Turkey, and Azerbaijan. It also covers Muslim-majority areas in other European countries—western North Macedonia, the Sandžak region of Serbia and Montenegro, the Rhodope Mountains in Bulgaria, and many Muslim areas in Russia. The term can also describe the Muslim population living in Europe. In 2012 there were about 45 million Muslims in Europe, about 6% of the continent’s population.
