Tom Carolan
Tom Carolan (born March 2, 1961) is an American music executive and entrepreneur. In his early career, he worked as a senior A&R executive at Atlantic Records, Sony 550, and Lava Records, where he helped sign and develop artists such as Stone Temple Pilots, The Lemonheads, Macy Gray, Jim Lauderdale, and Screamin’ Cheetah Wheelies. He also executive produced the soundtrack for the film The Crow. Collectively, his work has sold more than 50 million albums.
Entrepreneurial career:
In 2004, Carolan founded J Rae Entertainment, named after his daughter Juliana Rae Carolan. The company specialized in recording live concerts and providing tools for artists to publish music directly to fans. They worked with acts like Hootie & The Blowfish, Ted Nugent, Rancid, Rilo Kiley, and Papa Roach.
In 2007, J Rae Entertainment was folded into Total Live Music, of which he is founder and president. The company provides services to live entertainment and runs an online live-music database. It has helped events such as the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival and Mile High Music Festival capture performances for streaming, including on AT&T Blueroom.
Carolan also founded Total Box Music, a design and manufacturing company that creates limited-edition, collectible packaging for recording artists. Clients include Keith Richards, Eric Clapton, No Doubt, Trent Reznor, Incubus, Robbie Robertson, Vince Neil, Helmet, Jewel, and Public Enemy.
Beyond business, he has worked with St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, helping them engage the music industry through programs like Music Gives to St. Jude Kids, including initiatives such as the Rock 'n' Roll Hope Show.
