Cate Poynton
Catherine "Cate" McKean Poynton (1942–2021) was an Australian linguist who helped shape systemic functional linguistics. She studied how language reflects gender and social relationships, and how it expresses attitudes and stance. She taught at the University of South Australia and Western Sydney University, and her work contributed to the development of the appraisal framework.
