The Missing Piece (book)
The Missing Piece is a children's picture book by Shel Silverstein, first published in 1976 in the United States. The story follows a circular shape that is missing a wedge-shaped piece. The circle is unhappy without its missing piece, so it goes on a journey to find the right piece. It sings as it searches: "Oh, I'm lookin' for my missin' piece." The circle believes the perfect piece will finish it. When it finally finds a wedge that fits, it discovers it can’t do the things it used to enjoy—like singing or rolling slowly to spend time with a worm or butterfly. The circle realizes it was happier while searching for the piece, so it places the piece down and continues looking with joy. A sequel, The Missing Piece Meets the Big O, was published in 1981 and is told from the Missing Piece’s point of view.
