The Cleansing is the second single by the British band In Case of Fire, from their album Align the Planets. It was released on 2 March 2009 in the UK, with a re-release on 26 October 2009. The single includes two B-sides, Faust and A Terrible Fate, and was also issued on a limited 7" picture-disc (1,000 copies). The track, written by In Case of Fire and produced by Gil Norton, blends alternative rock and progressive rock. The CD version runs 5:36, while the digital download runs 11:55. The music video was shot in Leeds. The Cleansing is the band's only song to chart on radio to date. It sits between This Time We Stand (2008) and Enemies (2009) in their single releases, and a re-release with two new exclusive B-sides was planned for 26 October.
