Thüringenliga
Thüringenliga is the sixth tier (VI) of the German football league system and the highest league in the state of Thuringia. It was founded in 1990 and currently has 16 clubs. The champions for the 2021–22 season were FC Thüringen Weida.
Promotion and relegation: The league winner is promoted to the NOFV-Oberliga Süd. Relegation goes to Landesklasse Thüringen-Nord, Landesklasse Thüringen-Süd, or Landesklasse Thüringen-Ost.
Domestic cup: Thuringia Cup.
History in brief: The Thüringenliga started in 1990 as Landesliga Thüringen for teams from Erfurt, Gera and Suhl, formed after German reunification. It joined the German league system in 1991. It was the fourth tier before the Regionalliga Nordost was created in 1994, then became the fifth tier, and in 2008 dropped to the sixth tier with the introduction of the 3. Liga. It remains a feeder league to the NOFV-Oberliga Süd. In Thuringia (and Saxony) the local top leagues are sometimes called Landesliga instead of Verbandsliga.
