Templin is a small town in the Uckermark district of Brandenburg, Germany. It covers about 380 square kilometers and has around 15,600 residents, making it one of the larger towns by area in the region. The town sits in the southern part of the rural Uckermark, north of the Schorfheide-Chorin Biosphere Reserve, and serves as the local hub for several nearby villages.

Templin has a long history. It was first mentioned in 1270 and became a town in 1314. In 1317 the Treaty of Templin was signed there, ending a war with Denmark and its neighbors. It was heavily damaged in the Thirty Years’ War and later became part of Prussia.

Highlights include a modest but complete city wall with three gate towers, the St. Maria Magdalenen Church, and the Pulverturm powder tower. The Lehmann-Garten botanical garden was recreated in 1988 in the park of the former Joachimsthalsches Gymnasium.

In the area north of Groß Dölln lies a Soviet-era airfield built in the 1950s. Today Templin is a spa town that relies on tourism, attracting visitors from Berlin who enjoy the many lakes and forests nearby. The town center features a busy square with the old town hall, shops, restaurants, and a weekly outdoor market. There is no nightclub in Templin—the closest is in Milmersdorf—and several nearby villages rely on Templin for services.

Governing the town is Mayor Detlef Tabbert of The Left, first elected in 2010 and re-elected in 2018.
