Taekwondo weight classes

Taekwondo weight classes are the defined weight ranges used in competition. Each class has an upper limit, which is the maximum weight allowed for that class. The lower limit of a class sits just above the upper limit of the next lighter class, making the classes distinct. In a competition, a match (gyeorugi) is held in a fixed weight class, and athletes must weigh more than the lower limit and no more than the upper limit of that class.

Most senior events traditionally use 16 weight classes—eight for men and eight for women. However, the Olympic Games and Pan American Games limit entries to eight weight classes—four per gender—because of overall athlete limits.
