Sunset, Montague County, Texas
Sunset is a small, unincorporated community and census-designated place in Montague County, Texas, United States. It covers about 1.1 square miles (2.8 km2), all land, and sits at an elevation of 988 feet. As of 2020, the population was 543. The Fort Worth and Denver Railway runs through Sunset. A surveying error placed Sunset in Wise County before 1900, but it is in Montague County now. Sunset was incorporated as a city until it disincorporated on April 19, 2007. On April 9, 2009, residents were evacuated because of approaching wildfires that damaged many homes and businesses. The town is served by the Bowie Independent School District. The ZIP code is 76270, and the area code is 940.
In 2000, Sunset had 339 people, 133 households, and 90 families. The median household income was about $24,886, and about 16-17% of people were below the poverty line.
