Summer Mile Stakes
Summer Mile Stakes is a Group 2 flat horse race in Britain for horses aged four and older. It takes place at Ascot in July, covering 7 furlongs 213 yards (1,603 metres) on turf, on a right-handed track. The weight is 9 stone 1 pound, with 3 pounds allowance for fillies and mares; penalties are 5 pounds for Group 1 winners and 3 pounds for Group 2 winners since 2018. The prize money is £110,000 (winner £62,381 in 2021).
The race was once called the Silver Trophy Stakes and was held at Lingfield Park. It began as a Listed race for three-year-olds and older, run over 7 furlongs 140 yards, and was a handicap from 1993 to 1998. It moved to Ascot and extended to a mile in 1999. Promoted to Group 3 in 2003, it then excluded three-year-olds. It returned to Lingfield in 2005 when Ascot was redeveloped, becoming the first Group race in Britain run on a synthetic surface. It was renamed the Summer Mile Stakes in 2006, upgraded to Group 2, and moved back to Ascot in 2007.
