Sumio Kobayashi
Sumio Kobayashi (born December 29, 1982 in Mie, Japan) is a Japanese poet and composer of contemporary classical music. He began formal music training in 1985, excelling in piano and solfège. He studied with Joji Yuasa. Kobayashi has won several prizes, including the 29th International Composition Competition by I.C.O.M.S., the Gyeongsangnam-do Special Prize at the Isang Yun Prize, and second place in the 2013 Toru Takemitsu Composition Award. He was a finalist in the 2015 Pablo Casals International Composition Competition and won the 2016 International Composers' Competition of the European Capital of Culture in Wrocław. His music has been heard at festivals such as Takefu International Music Festival, Tongyeong International Music Festival, and Weimarer Frühjahrstage für zeitgenössische Musik.
