Suffield University
Suffield University (sometimes called Suffield College and University) is an online school that offers Life Experience Degrees for a fixed fee, awarded based on what a person says about their life experience rather than on study. It is not accredited by any recognized accreditation body, so its degrees may not be accepted by employers or other colleges, and in some places using certain degree titles is illegal. Because it charges for degrees based largely on life experience, it is often described as a diploma mill.
There have been multiple criticisms and actions against the institution. In the early 2000s, media reports described Suffield as operating with a bogus accrediting council, and there were cases where people with Suffield degrees faced questions about their qualifications. In 2004, Connecticut authorities were reported to have ordered Suffield to stop operating, and Oregon, Texas, and Maine listed it as operating illegally in Connecticut. As of 2014, the suffield-university.com site does not identify a geographic location, and the person behind Suffield is said to run other unaccredited universities such as Redding University, Glendale University, Greenwood University, and Bryson University.
