Pat Varsallona
Pasquale "Pat" Varsallona is an Italian footballer who was born in Favignana, Italy, and grew up playing soccer in Turin. After moving to the United States, he played semi-professional soccer in New Jersey. He had a strong college career, spending two years at Mercer County Community College and then three years at Drexel University, where he earned First Team All-American honors in the Mid-Atlantic region. In 1976 he founded the Central Jersey Youth Soccer Association and, in 1980, started the Garden State Soccer League, a premier New Jersey league for men, women, and youth, with a focus on older youth preparing for the adult game. He has held many administrative roles, including membership on the United States Soccer Federation International Games Committee and the USA Soccer Association Rules Committee, and he has served as the Chairman of the U20 National Tournament Committee. He has been the New Jersey Soccer Association Executive Director since 1984, the Commissioner of Champions League Soccer (a regional USASA league), and the CEO of the Garden State Soccer League. He is married to Ellen Volk for 38 years and they have two sons, Derrick and Andrew. In 2013 he received the Livio D'Arpino Award.
