Stand Up Seoul
Stand Up Seoul is an English-language stand‑up comedy group based in Seoul, South Korea. It began in 2009 when Brian Aylward started a weekly comedy night. After Aylward left for Canada, Jeff Sinclair, Rudy Tyburczy, Erin Weber, and Albert Escobedo led the group.
In spring 2012, Erin Weber left to pursue stand‑up in the United States and Adam Palmeter joined, though he had left Korea by March 2013. The group celebrated its fourth anniversary in March 2013.
From 2020 to 2022, the group was led by Korean comedian and beatboxer Sang Don Park and Korean comedian and producer Fernando Kim. Currently, Stand Up Seoul is overseen by Kristen Pimley (USA), Steve Gallas (USA), Hojip Jeon (Korean), and Geoff Gaudet (Canada).
Stand Up Seoul runs weekly open-mic nights and monthly paid events. They have toured many cities across South Korea and have hosted numerous visiting comedians, including Tom Cotter, Ted Alexandro, Kyle Kinane, James Adomian, Tom Rhodes (November 2012), Esther Ku, and Danny Cho. In 2013 they hosted Kyle Kinane and Matt Braunger at the Seoul Renaissance Hotel (May) and co-headliners Baron Vaughn and Ben Kronberg (November).
The group also emphasizes community involvement, staging charity events to support causes such as clean water in Ukraine, assistance for North Korean refugees, aid for single mothers, and help for families affected by the Itaewon tragedy.
