Speaking in Tongues (David Murray album)
Speaking in Tongues is a jazz studio album by saxophonist David Murray. It was recorded on December 5, 1997, and released in 1999 on the Justin Time label. The album runs 56 minutes and 54 seconds and was produced by Murray. It features Murray with Fontella Bass, Leopoldo F. Fleming, Stanley Franks, Clarence “Pookie” Jenkins, Ranzell Merritt, Jimane Nelson, and Hugh Ragin. Critics were positive: AllMusic called it intuitive and forward-thinking for Murray and his band, while Mother Jones described the performances as spirituals interpreted with electrified soul.
