Southern Cross Media Group
Southern Cross Media Group Limited is an Australian media company and the parent of Southern Cross Austereo. Based in South Melbourne, it trades on the ASX as SXL. The group began as Macquarie Media Group, which bought Southern Cross Broadcasting in 2007 and renamed the business Southern Cross Media Group in 2009 after a restructuring.
In 2025, Seven West Media announced a merger with Southern Cross Media Group, and the deal was completed on 7 January 2026. The merged group is led by Jeff Howard, CEO of Seven West Media, as Chief Executive and Managing Director, with Heith Mackay-Cruise becoming group Chairman, succeeding Kerry Stokes.
Previously, Macquarie Group sold a stake in the company in 2016, a portion of which was acquired by Nine Entertainment and later sold again. Southern Cross Austereo remains the core asset, running radio and TV stations across Australia.
