Southern California Rugby Football Union
Southern California Rugby Football Union (SCRFU) is the Geographical Union of USA Rugby for adult rugby in Southern California, the Las Vegas area, Arizona, and New Mexico. It runs many men’s and women’s leagues at all levels. College rugby is run separately by college conferences, and Youth Rugby is overseen by Southern California Youth Rugby (SCYR). In peak 15s seasons, SCRFU schedules over 80 matches in a weekend.
The SCRFU board includes Geno Mazza (president), Patrick Rashidian (vice president), Kevin Holmquist (treasurer), and Bradley Davidson (secretary). The SCR Rugby Referee Society (SCRRS) supports referees.
The oldest SCRFU club is Eagle Rock Athletic Club (founded 1937). The second oldest is Los Angeles Rugby Club (LARC), formed in 1958 as Universities RFC and renamed in 1966. In the late 1960s and early 1970s, UCLA was the dominant college team under coach Dennis Storer, who later became the first Eagles Coach when USA Rugby formed in 1975. Santa Monica RFC then became the dominant SCRFU men’s team in the mid-1970s through the early 1980s.
