Sistrurus miliarius streckeri is a venomous pit viper subspecies found in the south-central United States. The name streckeri honors American naturalist John Kern Strecker. Adults are about 40–63 cm long, averaging around 52 cm. They have a distinctive, irregular color pattern: a middle row of blotches wider than long; on the sides there are 1–2 rows of spots, with the upper spots taller than wide. The belly usually has diffuse dark pigment, and its blotches are not wider than a single scale. This subspecies has the fewest ventral scales of the species. Common names include ground rattlesnake, pygmy rattlesnake, southern pygmy rattlesnake, Strecker's pygmy rattlesnake, western ground rattlesnake, and western pygmy rattlesnake. They are found in the United States from Mississippi (except the southeast of the Pearl River Valley), west through Louisiana to eastern Texas, and north into southeastern and central Oklahoma, Arkansas, southern Missouri, and southwestern Tennessee. The type locality is near Imboden, Lawrence County, Arkansas.
