Shop 'n Save (Pittsburgh)
Shop ’n Save is a private discount grocery chain based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Founded in 1968, it operates about 74 stores (as of August 2024) across Western Pennsylvania, Western New York, Eastern Ohio, Maryland, and West Virginia. Each store is locally owned and operated and offers a wide range of products, including bakery, dairy, deli, frozen foods, produce, meat, seafood, snacks, and more, along with in-store banking and money services.
The stores are supplied by UNFI and license the Shop ’n Save name. In 1977, SuperValu entered the Pittsburgh market by acquiring Charley Brothers, and the Charley family remains licensees.
Shop ’n Save runs a loyalty program called the Perks Card. When you use the Perks Card, you can earn fuel discounts at participating Sunoco and Shop ’n Save Express stations, access special grocery deals, and load manufacturer coupons directly to the card. The chain also offers a mobile program for alerts and promotions.
In 2010, Shop ’n Save launched Our Kitchen Stories, an online cookbook celebrating regional cooking from Western Pennsylvania, Eastern Ohio, and Northern West Virginia.
In 2017, as part of the Royal Ahold and Delhaize merger divestitures, some Food Lion locations near Pittsburgh were sold to Supervalu and rebranded as Shop ’n Save. These stores operate independently from the Pittsburgh-area shops.
