Shigga Shay, born Pek Jin Shen on September 12, 1992 in Singapore, is a hip hop artist, songwriter, director and producer. His stage name, ShiGGa Shay, plays on the idea of “Grizzle Grind.” At 17, he was named WorldStarHipHop’s Unsigned Talent of the Week and he has had top singles on iTunes Singapore. He also performed at the White House Afterparty for a State Dinner in Washington, D.C. In 2023, he made history by becoming the first Singaporean to perform a song in both Mandarin and Hokkien on COLORSxSTUDIOS, and he appeared as a special guest on The Rap Of China.

Shigga Shay grew up in Singapore, inspired by his mother’s English hip hop records. He began rapping at a young age and joined schools’ musical groups, playing the dizi and trombone. He studied at Singapore Polytechnic, earning a diploma in media and communications, and served in the SAF Music & Drama Company during National Service, where he performed hundreds of shows and honed his stage presence. His early mixtapes and albums, released from 2010 onward, helped establish him as a prominent local hip hop voice.

As an artist, Shigga Shay co-founded the Grizzle Grind Crew and Grizzle Films, directing music videos and other projects. He has released a string of singles and EPs, including Lion City Kia, ShiGGa Morning, Tapau, and the 2020 mixtape S$. In 2021 he teamed up with Jay Park, and he later released the 2022 EP I AM U, featuring tracks with Jay Park and ØZI. He has also worked with brands like Hugo Boss and reached international audiences through performances at major events in Singapore, as well as appearances on The Rap Of China. In 2022 he made waves in the NFT space by selling out a genesis NFT in minutes, marking his entry into Web 3.0. He continued to push his multilingual style, blending English, Mandarin and Hokkien in his music and performances, including appearances at the IOC’s Olympic Esports Week in Singapore in 2023.
