Senior Marshal
Senior marshal (Polish: marszałek senior or marszałek-senior) is an officer in Poland’s parliament (Sejm or Senate). Appointed by the President of Poland, the senior marshal presides over the first sitting of the chamber, oversees MPs taking their oath, and coordinates the election of the house’s permanent leader who then presides.
In the Sejm, the senior marshal is chosen from the oldest members and opens the first sitting. In the Senate, the eldest senator-elect is nominated for the office, and the President starts the proceedings.
