Self-review framework
Self-review Framework is an online tool for UK schools to check how they use technology in learning. It helps schools see where they stand and suggests practical steps to improve. It provides a simple structure to review a school’s use of technology and its impact on improvement. It is designed for all schools and aligns with Ofsted processes. It can also be used as evidence for a school’s Self Evaluation Framework (SEF).
The framework was originally developed by Becta and is now run by Naace, which also manages the NaaceMark (the ICT Mark). After Becta closed in 2011, its functions were moved to the Department for Education, but Naace continues to run the Self-review Framework and the NaaceMark.
The six parts of the framework summarize a school’s current ICT capabilities and suggest actions to improve:
- Leadership and management
- Planning
- Learning
- Assessment
- Professional development
- Resources
The NaaceMark is a national quality accreditation that schools can achieve once they reach a certain level and have completed the commentary sections in the online Self-review Framework. It recognises good practice in using technology across the curriculum and school management.
The framework was created through collaboration among Ofsted, QCA, TDA, NCSL, National Strategies, SSAT, and Naace, with input from many partners and stakeholders.
