Seco, Kentucky
Seco is an unincorporated community in Letcher County, eastern Kentucky. It’s about 6 miles east of Whitesburg. The area was settled in the late 1800s and got its own post office in 1915. The name comes from the South East Coal Company, which owned the land. The coal mines are mostly closed, though a small mine near the town center may still be visited. Today, the main business is the Highland Winery, started in the mid-1990s. Tom Gish, longtime publisher of The Mountain Eagle in Whitesburg, was born in Seco.
