Seagull (company)
Seagull Guitars is a Canadian maker of acoustic guitars, mandolins, and ukuleles and is a sub-brand of Godin Guitars. It started in 1982 with Robert Godin and friends in La Patrie, Quebec, and is now based in Montreal, serving customers worldwide.
Seagull guitars place the tuning machines close to the nut to improve tuning stability. Most models offer Godin Quantum electronics: Quantum I is an under-saddle pickup, and Quantum II blends a small microphone with the pickup.
All Seagull models use a compound-curve top design. The top has a slight arch above the soundhole (about a 7-meter radius) that flattens toward the bridge, allowing a thinner, lighter top while keeping a traditional sound. The goal is to improve both sound and structural strength; lighter construction tends to sound better, while heavier bracing can dampen it.
