Scotty Cannon is a well-known figure in IHRA drag racing, especially in the Pro Modified class. He has 28 IHRA Pro Modified wins in 45 finals and holds the record for the most Pro Modified wins at Bristol Motor Speedway with four. He grew up around oval-track racing but chose drag racing, and he’s famous for wearing a mohawk, which he says became his trademark. He began racing at 16 and has always loved going straight and making cars go as fast as possible.

When Pro Modified became a professional category in 1990, Cannon became a popular IHRA racer and won six championships in the Pro Modified class. In 1998 he moved from IHRA to NHRA to race nitro-burning funny cars and was named NHRA Rookie of the Year in 1999. He returned to IHRA Pro Modified in 2004. He currently drives a Top Fuel Dragster in IHRA competition sponsored by Torco Race Fuels. His son, Scott Cannon Jr., drives a 1968 Pontiac Firebird Pro Mod and was the 2007 IHRA World Champion.
