Satrapes

Content sourced from Wikipedia, licensed under CC BY-SA 3.0.

Satrapes was a god in the Palmyrene pantheon. The name appears in Syrian inscriptions from Palmyra and the Hauran. The ancient traveler Pausanias mentions Satrapes as a god who had a statue and a cult in Elis, where he is identified with Korybas. The origin of this deity is unclear. It may have arisen from a cult that linked the divine with the satrap’s royal power, similar to how the Romans deified certain personifications, such as Pietas.
