KGSV
KGSV is a commercial AM radio station at 660 kHz, licensed to Oildale, California, and serving the Bakersfield area. It is owned by XL Media (CA) Inc. and broadcasts Radio Punjab, a South Asian program. The station also airs on FM translator 102.5 (K273CB) in Bakersfield. The transmitter is on Round Mountain Road in Bakersfield. KGSV operates as a Class B station with 8,000 watts by day and 6,000 watts at night.
History in brief: The station first went on air in 1987 as KGDP in Orcutt, serving the Santa Maria/Central Coast market. It swapped call signs a few times (KGDP → KSMI → KGDP) and was originally owned by People of Action. After bankruptcy in 2008, KGDP and KGDP-FM stopped operating. In 2009 Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa bought the station and switched it to KWVE-FM San Clemente’s 107.9 simulcast; the AM station became KWVE and moved to Oildale/Bakersfield. In 2016 XL Media bought the AM station, changed the call sign to KGSV, and began airing Radio Punjab. The license was briefly assigned to Akal Broadcasting Corporation in 2017 and returned to XL Media in 2019. Affiliates in San Francisco, Sacramento and other West Coast markets carry the same programming. Website: radiopunjab.com
