Sandeep Singh (air marshal)
Air Marshal Sandeep Singh, PVSM, AVSM, VM (born 15 January 1963) is a retired Indian Air Force officer who now serves as the Military Advisor to the National Security Council Secretariat. He was the 46th Vice Chief of the Air Staff from 1 October 2021 to 31 January 2023, succeeding Vivek Ram Chaudhari and followed by Amar Preet Singh. Earlier, he served as the Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the South Western Air Command and as the Deputy Chief of the Air Staff (2019–2021).
Commissioned as a fighter pilot on 22 December 1983, he has logged over 4,780 flying hours on aircraft including Su-30MKI, MiG-29, MiG-21, Kiran, An-32, AVRO, Jaguar and Mirage 2000. A Sword of Honour recipient, he is a qualified training instructor (A2). He played a key role in inducting the Su-30MKI into the IAF, commanded a fighter squadron, taught at the Air Force Test Pilot School, and served as project test pilot for the Su-30MKI. He was the main liaison for DRDO in implementing weapons and systems for the Su-30MKI.
His awards include the Param Vishisht Seva Medal (2022), the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (2013) and the Vayu Sena Medal. He was married to Kamini Singh, and they have two daughters. His father-in-law is Air Marshal Prithi Singh and his brother-in-law is Air Marshal Vikram Singh. He retired on 31 January 2023 and was succeeded by Air Marshal Amar Preet Singh.
