Saleem Jaffar
Saleem Jaffar (born 19 November 1962 in Karachi) is a former Pakistani cricketer and coach. A right-handed batsman and left-arm fast-medium bowler, he represented Pakistan in 14 Tests and 39 ODIs between 1986 and 1992, making his Test debut on 20 November 1986 against the West Indies and his ODI debut on 17 October 1986 against the same opponents. His last Test was on 2 January 1992 against Sri Lanka and his last ODI was on 11 November 1990 against West Indies.
In Tests, Jaffar took 36 wickets at 31.63, with a best of 5/40. He had a notable performance against New Zealand in Wellington in 1988–89, finishing with match figures of 8/134, which included his only five-wicket haul in Tests. In ODIs, he took 40 wickets at 34.54, with best bowling of 3/25.
Domestically, he played for Karachi and United Bank Limited. In first-class cricket, he appeared in 81 matches, taking 263 wickets at 25.46 with a best innings figure of 7/29, and he scored 379 runs with a top score of 33 not out.
After his playing career, Jaffar spent time in Canada’s British Columbia Mainland Cricket League in Vancouver. He later became a selector for the Pakistan national team in 2007.
