Rowland Winter
Rowland Winter, born 17 February 1985, is a British rugby union coach. He started his coaching career at Northampton Saints, working in the Junior Academy and Community Development. In his early 20s he led Northampton BBOB RFC and Bedford Athletic to league and cup wins, and he also gained experience with the England U-20s Counties structure.
In February 2013 he became Director of Rugby at Cambridge RFC. He restructured the club and, over three years, led them to win English National League 2 in 2015-16. In January 2023 he returned to Cambridge as Chief Operating Officer, overseeing rugby and commercial operations, and in May 2023 Cambridge were promoted to the RFU Championship after a strong second half of the season.
In May 2016 he was appointed Director of Rugby at Coventry RFC, guiding them to the English National League 1 title in 2017-18 and earning a contract extension to 2022. In 2018-19 Coventry finished 8th and reached a cup quarter-final in their first season back in the Championship, the best finish by any promoted side at that time. In 2019-20 Coventry were 4th before the season was halted by the coronavirus.
In January 2022, after a home defeat to Cornish Pirates, Winter left Coventry (announced in April). Alex Rae became head coach. Winter had made significant changes at both Cambridge and Coventry. In May 2022 it was announced he moved to schools rugby, taking the role of Director of Rugby at St Joseph’s College in Ipswich.
