Rothschild's emu

Content sourced from Wikipedia, licensed under CC BY-SA 3.0.

Rothschild's emu is a subspecies of the emu, with the scientific name Dromaius novaehollandiae rothschildi. It lives in southern Australia—mostly in Western Australia, South Australia, Victoria, and New South Wales, and it may wander into nearby states. It has darker feathers and, during breeding season, does not show a neck ruff like the main emu subspecies Dromaius novaehollandiae novaehollandiae. Some scientists question whether it is a true subspecies, while others treat it as its own subspecies.
