Rostyslav Hertsyk
Rostyslav Andriyovych Hertsyk is a Ukrainian foil fencer. Born on July 5, 1989, he is 1.86 meters tall and fences left-handed for Lviv. He has won medals at several events, including silver at the Copa Villa La Habana in 2011 and bronze at the Löwe von Bonn in 2012, and he narrowly missed qualifying for the 2012 London Olympics. In 2013, before the World Championships in Budapest, he was ranked 42nd, but defeated top fencers Peter Joppich, Race Imboden, and Andrea Cassarà to reach the semifinals and earn a bronze after losing to Artur Akhmatkhuzin. He also competed in the 2013 World Combat Games, where he lost in the first round to Imboden. Hertsyk studies at the Lviv State University of Physical Culture. He is the grandson of Miroslav Hertsyk, the university rector who helped develop rowing in the Lviv region. He won medals at the 2017 Summer Universiade in Taipei as well as at the 2013 World Championships in Budapest.
