Roberto Carnaghi
Roberto Luis Carnaghi (born 13 May 1938 in Avellaneda, Buenos Aires) is an Argentine actor with a long career in theatre, television, film, and advertising. He studied acting at the Teatro Municipal de San Isidro and the National School of Drama, graduating in 1966, and began his professional life on stage at Teatro General San Martin. He has acted in about 44 films, around 60 theatre plays, over 50 TV programs, and nearly 100 advertisements. He has performed important Shakespeare roles, such as King Lear and The Merchant of Venice.
Early in his career he did advertising with James Walter Thompson; after initial rejection, he was hired and made nearly 100 ads for brands including Ford and Citroën. This work helped him move into TV in the 1980s and some film roles. He became famous through the comedic talk shows of Tato Bores and has worked with comedians Antonio Gasalla and Guillermo Francella.
In 2006 Carnaghi appeared in the telenovela Montecristo, where his character referenced the Dirty War's baby kidnappings; he opposed such violence and suggested changing the script to reflect his character as married to an infertile wife to avoid portraying him as evil. That year he received the Gold ACE Award for 40 years of work. In 2012 he participated in Graduados, playing the parents of a Jewish family; he noted that his real relationship with his sons differs from that of his character.
Among his recognitions, he won a Tato Award as a supporting actor and was named a "featured personality of culture" by the Buenos Aires City Legislature, with additional recognition from his Villa Urquiza neighborhood. Carnaghi is married to Julia Blanco since 1965 and they have three children.
