Richard Hamilton (actor)
Richard Hamilton (December 31, 1920 – December 21, 2004) was an American actor who worked in film, television, theatre and radio. Born in Chicago and raised in California, he studied at Pasadena Junior College and the Pasadena Playhouse, then performed on West Coast radio before moving to New York to act on Broadway. He appeared in award-winning stage productions, including Buried Child and Morning’s at Seven, and was an active member of The Players club. He also did radio work, including roles in X Minus One.
Hamilton’s film work included Pale Rider (1985), Men in Black (1997) as Tommy Lee Jones’s first partner, The Hospital (1971), Resurrection (1980), Arthur (1981), Protocol (1984), In Country (1989), Sommersby (1993), On Deadly Ground (1994), and Death to Smoochy (2002). On television, he appeared in TV films such as F.D.R.: The Last Year (1980), Riviera (1987), Plymouth (1991) and The Yearling (1994). He had a recurring role as Cy Whittaker on Bret Maverick (1981) and played Big Willy in a Frasier episode (1996). His other series credits include Naked City, St. Elsewhere, The Equalizer, Law & Order, Picket Fences, Oz and Spin City.
Hamilton was married to Marilyn Morgan Hamilton and had a daughter and a son. He died at his home in the Catskill Mountains, New York, at age 83.
